A Community Reading
I’m excited to announce that I get to read an essay written by my friend, Joy Riggs, at a Community Reading taking place in Northfield at Imminent Brewing on Friday, June 1st beginning at 5:00 p.m. Joy would normally read her own essay but will be out of town celebrating her daughter’s college graduation. Thanks for the opportunity to read your lovely essay, Joy!
This reading is part of the inaugural First Friday Arts Night, sponsored by the Northfield Downtown Development Corp. (NDDC), the Northfield Arts and Culture Commission, and the City of Northfield. There will be many performances and events taking place on this evening. Click HERE to find out more at the event’s Facebook page
I honestly am not sure how the reading part of the First Friday Arts Night came to be but I do know that Northfield’s Poet Laureate, Rob Hardy, is involved. Rob is behind oh so many wonderful literary events in Northfield. I don’t know what our community would do without him!!
I’ll be reading “Time Travelers ” an excerpt from Joy’s memoir, Finding My Musical Family. I’m so honored that I get to read Joy’s essay as she is talented writer and a great friend. If you don’t know about Joy’s book about “her quest to uncover the extraordinary exploits of her paternal great-grandfather, G. Oliver Riggs, a pioneering Minnesota music man” be sure to check out her blog at mymusicalfamily.blogspot.com.
Another writer friend of mine, Leslie Schultz (who has has a new collection of poetry out titled Cloud Song) will also be reading at this event along with several other people I know including Carolyn Link, Christopher Tassava, and Orick Peterson.
The event should be great fun. Imminent will have beer and other beverages available, of course, and the Noris Cuisine food truck will be there in case you want something to eat. After the reading, be sure to stick around to listen to music provided by The Big Dixie Swingers.
Hope to see you there!
